Cecily has been riding horses since she was a toddler, thanks to the influence of her older sister. She started taking lessons, and joined the United States Pony Club, at age 6 on her first pony, Snowball. Since then, she has been pursuing her riding education and competing in dressage and jumping, including combined training. In 1998, she went to the Pony Club National Championships in Lexington Kentucky on her thoroughbred mare, Suzie, and competed in Show Jumping. Cecily got her B rating in 2001, right before starting college at UC Berkeley. While at college, Cecily continued to teach beginning and intermediate riding and jumping, and after a semester abroad in South America, Cecily graduated with a B.A. in Anthropology, and is now teaching again at Rancho del Lago.
